NSWIS sailor Nathan Outteridge has become the Institute’s first world champion of 2011 by taking gold in the men’s moth class at the 2011 Moth World Championships on Lake Macquarie.

Outteridge was easily the best performer of the week, winning 10 of 18 races for the week to stake his claim as one of the world’s best sailors in winning three world championships in three years.

Fellow NSWIS athletes Tom Slingsby and Iain Jensen finished seventh and ninth, respectively.

Outteridge’s victory provides the perfect warm up for his tilt at a second world championship in 2011, the 2011 Far 40 World Championships in Sydney in February.
