The National Water Polo league came to a conclusion in Sydney over the weekend, with a number of NSWIS athletes experiencing a triumphant finish to the season.

The Sydney Uni Lions claimed honours in the women’s competition with a tough 12-11 win over the Fremantle Marlins, securing their second consecutive title.

NSWIS athlete and Olympian Keesja Gofers was instrumental in the win, scoring three goals while fellow NSWIS athlete and Rio 2016 teammate Lea Yanitsas make some crucial saves in goal.

Also on the scoresheet for the Lions were NSWIS athletes Isobel Bishop, Danielle Morrissey and Sophie Hodgson.

The men’s competition saw the UNSW Magpies claim a thrilling 6-5 win over Sydney Uni.

The Lions led 5-2 at halftime before a spirited comeback from the Magpies saw them claim victory as NSWIS athlete Richie Campbell scored four goals en route to the victory.

NSWIS athlete Jarrod Gilchrist, who scored two goals during the final, was named the season’s MVP for his standout play over the course of the competition, with Campbell securing the Finals MVP award.
