Office of Sport Female Athlete of the Year 2017 Finalists

The top gong for female NSWIS scholarship holders at the NSWIS Awards, the Office of Sport Female Athlete of the Year honours women in sport who have achieved outstanding results in the field of play.

The winner of the award has their name placed alongside some of Australia’s greatest athletes, including Kate Bates, Jacqueline Lawrence and Torah Bright, earning their spot with achievements that include Olympic and world championship gold medals.

In 2017 the finalists for the Office of Sport Female Athlete of the Year are:

• Britt Cox (Winter Sports): Freestyle moguls World Champion and overall World Cup champion, and only the second Australian woman after Alisa Camplin to win seven medals in a single World Cup season
• Madi de Rozario (Para-Athletics): Crowned T54 5000m World Champion at the Para-Athletics World Championships, while also winning silver and bronze world championship medals in the T54 800m and T54 1500m, respectively
• Jessica Fox (Canoe Slalom): As well as securing the K1 Slalom World Championship,  Jess has also won seven World Cup medals including three gold. Jess is the overall World Cup winner in C1 Women for 2017. She’s also the first female athlete in Canoe Slalom to win five senior World Championships titles
• Ashleigh Gentle (Triathlon): The QAS scholarship holder and NSWIS visiting athlete won mixed relay world championship gold in Australian colours before taking silver overall in the ITU World Triathlon Series, only the second Australian woman to take to the overall World Triathlon Series podium since 2009
• Amanda Reid (Para-Cycling): A double para-cycling World Champion in 2017, claiming gold in the women’s individual pursuit and time trial events
• Dani Stevens (Athletics): Silver medallist in the women’s discus at the IAAF Athletics World Championships, with a throw that would have won the previous 12 world championships and five Olympic Games
