Rio-bound NSWIS athletics competitor and 2012 Olympian Eloise Wellings is opening up her secrets about how to best prepare for an event.

Wellings, who has been selected to compete at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 10000 metre and 5000 metre athletics events, is an ambassador for the Sydney Half Marathon and is providing tips on how to prepare for those taking part.

With the race less than two weeks away, here are the first two tips Wellings has released:

  1. With the race starting early, you need to focus when you wake up. A coffee or other caffeine supplements can assist. Consider a glucose top up 30 minutes before the race start to help in the latter stages of the race.
  2. Carb load the day before the race. Foods such as bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and muesli are all great foods to consider.
