The organic trend has gathered momentum over the last few years as consumers become more aware of the environment and food supply. At an energy level, an organic potato will have the same kilojoules as a non organic potato but beyond basic fuel is where the difference may be.

Organic food is grown without pesticides or chemicals to ward off bugs. There are a lot of comments about what the pesticides can do to your long term health but more research has to be done to conclude this. There is also limited research to show a strong nutritional difference between organic and conventionally produced food.

Consumers who purchase and eat organic food may be touted as ‘healthy’ as they seem to demonstrate an attitude where they are thinking about what they eat and the impact food has on their body.

If people are placing a conscious consideration towards the food they are eating they may also be more inclined to not eat foods with a large amount of preservatives and additives, foods which can sometimes also be high in fat and sugar. Any foods that are low in fat and added sugar and have limited additives and preservatives are healthier food choices.
