A number of NSWIS sprint paddlers are in position for Olympic selection following the 2016 Oceania Championships over the weekend.

The first of two selection events saw Murray Stewart, Jo Brigden-Jones and Lachlan Tame all pick up gold medals in key events ahead of the second selection event in March, the 2016 National Sprint Championships.

Stewart claimed victory in the men’s K1 1000m and K4 1000m to gain a foothold on the Olympic team, with Tame joining him in the K4 1000m while also winning the K2 1000m alongside Ken Wallace.

Brigden-Jones secured victory in the women’s K1 500m to stake her claim for Olympic selection while also placing second in the women’s K2 500m with Naomi Flood to keep the battle alive ahead of next month’s final selection event.

The National Sprint Championships will be held at Champion Lakes in Perth from 2-6 March.
