NSWIS athlete Malcolm Page and skipper Mat Belcher have won their third consecutive 470 world championships after triumphing over the weekend in Barcelona, Spain.

The duo won eight of 13 races, including the first six, to dominate their opposition and sound a warning ahead of the 2012 London Olympic Games, where Page will defend his Olympic title.

“Mat and I have had an incredible week, to have a scorecard like that and to sail as well as we did we couldn’t have asked for much more,” said Page. “To win eight races, including the first six was pretty impressive, I’ve never had a regatta like that.”

“This win makes it six regattas in a row stretching back to last November, including two world championships, we’re in a good position, are sailing well and feel like we’re getting better and better each time we go out on the water,” said Page.

Page and Belcher now turn their focus to the next round of the world cup in Weymouth, the Olympic sailing venue, before the Games begin in July.
