NSWIS starlets Jayme Richardson, Alex Green and Simone Kennedy have enjoyed tremendous success at the 2014 UCI Para-cycling World Track Championships in Mexico.

London gold medallist and world record holder Richardson clean swept the women’s C1 class claiming gold in the 3km pursuit and 500m time trial. 

Richardson was just 0.009 seconds outside her world record in the 500m-time trial, collecting Australia’s first medal of the championships, before adding another gold to her tally in the pursuit on Saturday. 

Simone Kennedy collected double bronze in the women’s C3 pursuit and time trial, whilst Green backed up a fourth place finish in the women’s C4 500m time trial with silver in the women’s C4 3km pursuit. 

Green made it a one-two for Australia in the event, finishing four seconds behind the ACT’s Susan Powell.Powell (3:56.969) broke her own world record in qualifying by seven seconds, with Green (3:57.393) also going under the old mark to set up an all-Aussie final.

Powell went even faster in the final, eclipsing her new mark by almost one second, crossing the line in 3mins 56.135secs to take the gold over Green (4:00.06).

Team Australia finished the Para-cycling World Track Championships as the most successful country with 17 medals, including five rainbow jerseys.
