Star NSWIS skier Melissa Perrine will have to wait for another chance at a medal after missing Gate 29 during the women’s vision-impaired Super-G at the Sochi Winter Paralympics on Monday.

Having flown down the mountain on the opening section of the course, Perrine was 1.3 seconds faster than the eventual winner at the second time check, but an error of judgement at Gate 29 saw her fly off course and end her medal chances.

Perrine was shattered by the mistake and placed the blame solely on her shoulders.

“There are no excuses on that one. I made a mistake. I skied poorly. It’s completely on me and I’ve got to live with that. I’ve got to change it for tomorrow,” Perrine said.

“I didn’t commit to the turn and as a consequence I missed the next gate and there is no one else to blame but myself on this one.’’

Perrine still has three events remaining at the Sochi Paralympics including the Super Combined later today, where she will race the Super-G at 4.30pm Australian time, followed by the Slalom later in the evening.

“I know I can ski this hill well. I know I can ski well and I’ve got to remember that, I’ve got to focus on that,” she added. “I really have to try and take some confidence into the next three events.’’
