Five NSWIS sailors have walked away with medals at the conclusion of the Palma, Spain leg of the 2011/12 ISAF Sailing World Cup over the weekend.

The highlight of the regatta was Malcolm Page taking gold in the men’s 470 class with skipper Mat Belcher. The Aussie duo went into the medal race with a 14 point lead over their nearest rivals before finishing second in the race and first overall by 18 points.

Page’s gold was completement by the Australian women’s match racing crew, comprised of NSWIS athletes Olivia Price, Nina Curtis and Lucinda Whitty, taking bronze in their event.

The NSWIS trio came up against Spain in the battle for third and fourth, and eventually took bronze after winning the third and deciding race.

The sailor’s strong results were then capped off by NSWIS athlete Tom Burton taking gold in the men’s laser. Burton was in the mix all week, and eventually won the medal race to finish with bronze overall.

The world cup now moves to Hyeres, France.
