Eleven NSWIS rowers will compete at the 2012 Olympic Games following the announcement of the Australian rowing team.Headlining the NSWIS selections are Daniel Noonan and five NSWIS athletes selected in the men’s eight crew. 

Noonan finished fourth as part of the men’s quad scull at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but since that time has won world championship bronze (2010), silver (2009) and gold (2011) in the event.

Five NSWIS athletes will line up in the men’s eight at the Games. Francis Hegerty and Matthew Ryan won silver in the men’s four in Beijing, but this time they will be joined in the men’s eight by Sam Loch, who will compete at his second Games, and debutants Tobias Lister (coxswain) and Nicholas Purnell.

Rod Chisholm returns to Olympic competion in the men’s lightweight four after a ninth place finish in Beijing; James Chapman will compete in the men’s four after switching from the men’s eight; Amy Clay once again lines up in the women’s quad scull after finishing sixth four years ago; Brooke Pratley earned selection in the women’s double scull for at her second Games, and Tess Gerrand makes her Olympic debut in the women’s eight.
