Triathlete Aaron Royle has secured early Olympic nomination following a top-10 finish at the Olympic test event in Rio de Janeiro over the weekend.

Needing to be the first Australian in the top-10, Royle performed outstandingly to finish sixth in a high quality field, stopping the clock in 1:49:34 to earn automatic nomination to the Australian Olympic Committee for next year’s Games.

Royle was part of a group that made a significant breakaway during the bike leg of the race, holding his place across the line to finish behind winner Javier Gomez while gaining valuable racing experience in the Olympic city.

Fellow NSWIS athlete Ryan Bailie finished 14th with Charlotte McShane finishing 36th in the elite women’s race.
