NSWIS athlete Dani Samuels returned to competition over the weekend at the Hunter Track Classic with a solid showing in the women’s discus.

Samuels’ first competition in 2012 saw her cruise to victory with a throw of 59.03 metres, well down on her personal best but still good enough to be nearly five metres ahead of her nearest competition.

"This is my first comp of 2012, so at the same time it’s good to know that I can come out and throw something standard like that even when it didn’t feel like it was coming out of my hand well."

It was a solid night all round from NSWIS athletes, with results including Nick Hough winning silver in the men’s 200m and clocking his second world junior championship qualifying time in the men’s under-20 hurdles en route to gold, Matthew Outzen triumphing in the men’s javelin, Pirrenee Steinert taking silver in the women’s 400m, Laura Whaler finishing with bronze in the women’s 100m and Matt Lynch clocking a new personal best of 46.45 to win gold in the men’s 400m.

The Australian Athletics Tour kicks off this coming weekend with the Adelaide Track Classic.
