NSWIS athlete Dani Samuels has continued her excellent preparation for the Commonwealth Games by winning silver at the prestigious Paris Diamond League event.

Having already thrown over 67m on two occasions this year, Samuels added a throw of 67.40m to her season’s list of achievements to take silver in the women’s discus.

Samuels threw over 63m on five of six throws in the competition to lead in Paris, before rival Sandra Perkovic snatched the gold with her final throw of 68.48m.

Samuels’ final throw of 67.40m secured the silver and continued a strong lead in to this month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where she will be favourite for gold.

Elsewhere in Europe, a number of NSWIS athletes competed at the Memorial Leon Buyle meet in Belgium.

Jarrod Geddes bagged silver and bronze in the men’s 200m and 100m respectively; Ella Nelson and Anneliese Rubie each won silver in the women’s 200m and 400m respectively; Ian Dewhurst took gold in the men’s 400m hurdles, and decathlete Jake Stein finished with bronze in the men’s discus and fourth in the men’s javelin.

All six NSWIS athletes will compete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which kick off on 23 July in Glasgow, Scotland.
