Discus thrower Dani Samuels has returned to the medal dais following a strong performance at the Shanghai leg of the 2014 IAAF Diamond League.

Samuels won a silver medal in the event following a solid night of competition in China, completing five of six throws with a minimum distance of 63m, including a throw of 67.88m which secured the medal.

The silver medal winning throw was just 11cm from her career best, but was not enough to take gold after Croatian Sandra Perkovic set a new Diamond League record with a throw of 70.52m.

Samuels remains on track for a strong showing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where she will be favourite for gold.
