NSWIS swimmer Emma McKeon has made a dream start to the 2013 FINA Aquatic World Championships by winning silver as part of the Australian women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team.

Joining compatriots Bronte Campbell, Cate Campbell and Alicia Coutts in the final, McKeon swam the third leg of the relay to lead the Australians into the final leg, before a comeback from the USA saw Australia take silver in 3:32.43.

Fellow NSWIS athlete James Magnussen was also in relay action, competing in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay where the Australian team finished fourth by less than 0.40 seconds.

Also at the championships, the Australian men’s and women’s water polo teams have both advanced to the quarter finals of their respective draws.

The women’s team, featuring NSWIS athletes Lea Barta, Jayde Appel, Hannah Buckling, Holly Lincoln-Smith, Keesja Gofers and Nicola Zagame will face Greece, while the men’s team plays European powershouses Croatia. Included in the men’s team are NSWIS athletes Joel Dennerley, Richie Campbell, Johnno Cotterill, Aidan Roach, Tyler Martin, Nathan Power and James Clark.
