NSWIS sailors Malcolm Page and Liesl Tesch have won gold medals at the Miami leg of the 2012 ISAF Sailing World Cup.

Page combined with skipper Mat Belcher in the men’s 470 to win their first gold at the Miami leg of the world cup in four attempts. The pair has dominated the 470 class in recent years and Miami was no different with top-10 finishes in every race, including five victories, to secure gold by six points.

Page’s fellow NSWIS athlete Liesl Tesch was the other big winner at the world cup, joining compatriot Daniel Fitzgibbon to take gold in the skud 18 class. The duo entered the final day’s racing level on points with their British competitors before taking the win in the final race to secure the title by a point.

Elsewhere, NSWIS athletes Olivia Price, Nina Curtis and Lucinda Whitty won silver in the women’s match racing class. It was the first world cup final for the NSWIS trio as they came up against the experienced British trio, with the latter taking the win after triumphing in three races.

“We have plenty more to improve on and are really looking forward to the coming months and working hard to reach our final goal,” Whitty said.
