Canoe sprint athlete Murray Stewart was the big winner over the weekend at the 2012 NSW Canoe Sprint Championships, winning five medals including three gold.

Stewart won gold in the men’s K4 1000m, K1 1000m and K1 500m, before picking up silver in the men’s K1 200m and bronze in the men’s K2 200m. Stewart’s hectic schedule and outstanding results are a promising sign ahead of the upcoming Olympic qualification events.

Fellow NSWIS athletes Jo Brigden-Jones and Naomi Flood showed their paths to the 2012 London Olympic Games are also on track. Brigden-Jones won gold in the women’s K4 500m and bronze in the women’s K2 500m and K1 200m, while Flood secured silver in the women’s K1 500m.

Marius Florian picked up two medals; gold in the men’s K1 500m and silver in the men’s K1 200m, Sebastian Marczak won gold in the men’s C1 200m, and Maddison Prior and Kirsty Higgison won silver and bronze, respectively, in the women’s K1 1000m.
