The Ord Minnett Australian Women’s Water Polo Team have booked their spot in the quarter finals for the World Aquatics World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

After finishing second in the group stages and defeating Israel 16-7 in the cross overs game, the Ord Minnett Aussie Stingers will tonight take on Greece in the quarter finals.

While Australia will be looking to build on their momentum, having only dropped one game from four so far, they know they will have a tough path to the finals when they line up against the European powerhouse.

The Ord Minnett Aussie Stingers will be led by captain and dual Olympian Zoe Arancini (pictured), along with fellow Olympians and New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship athletes Bronte Halligan, Tilly Kearns and Ruby Swadling, as well as Gabi Palm and Abby Andrews to help lead the side.

Head Coach Paul Oberman said: “We’re progressing where we want to be and we’re trying to implement tactics. We’re getting there, but it takes time.

“The game against Greece will be a very tough affair, with Greece finishing first in their group. They have very good defence and had a very good game against Italy.

“They are a very dangerous attacking team, with strong centre forwards and some very good outside shooters.

“We will have to make sure our tactics match that to have a successful outcome and continue through to the semi finals,” he said.

The last time the Ord Minnett Aussie Stingers faced off against Greece, the match was pushed to a penalty shoot out, with the Aussies coming away with the win.

Australia will take on Greece tonight 24 July at 7:00pm AEST, live and free on 9Now.
