The Australian women’s water polo team has won a bronze medal at the 2014 FINA World League Finals after a 7-2 win over hosts China.

The Stingers secured a 2-1 first quarter lead thanks to a goal from NSWIS athlete Jayde Appel, before another two goals in the second quarter saw Australia lead 4-1 at the half-time break.

A tough third quarter saw NSWIS athlete Keesja Gofers add a fifth goal for Australia, before another two goals in the final quarter secured the bronze medal.

Joining Gofers and Appel in the side were fellow NSWIS athletes Bronte Halligan and Hannah Buckling.
