NSWIS mogul skiers Britteny Cox and Matthew Graham have made an excellent start to the 2013/14 season following the opening round of the world cup in Finland.

Cox was on song from the outset in the women’s freestyle event, finishing atop the standings after the qualification round, before finishing the first final in second place to move into the six-woman final. Another impressive performance from Cox saw the 19 year old finish her season debut in fourth place, just outside the medals.

Fellow NSWIS athlete Graham moved into the first final after posting a score good enough for 10th in the qualification round, before moving up the field into fourth after the first final. Graham held on to that position in the final to finish fourth overall, equalling his performance from the world championships earlier this year.

Fellow NSWIS athletes Brodie Summers, Sam Hall, Nicole Parks and Taylah Paige-O’Neill were also in moguls action, finishing 18th, 55th, 30th and 35th, respectively.

The Finland event also saw snowboarders Steph Magiros and Alex Fitch competing, with the duo finishing 14th and 18th, respectively, in the women’s snowboard half-pipe.

Elsewhere in world cup action, three NSWIS athletes competed at the ski cross event in France. Jenny Owens placed 18th in the women’s event, while Scott Kneller and Anton Grimus posted respective finishes of 30th and 35th.

Rounding out the world cup results was John Farrow, who placed 13th in the men’s skeleton event in Lake Placid, USA.
