The NSW Swifts won through to their first ANZ Championship final since 2008 with a stirring 60-52 victory over the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in the semi final.

Following a narrow loss last week, the Swifts travelled to New Zealand and were immediately locked in a tight tussle for supremacy, heading into quarter time down 14-15.

The team came alive in the second quarter to assert a commanding lead at half time, winning the quarter 17-6 to move ahead 31-21 heading into the second half.

A fightback from the Magic saw the Swifts’ gap reduced to just two, 42-40 at three quarter time, before the Swifts held on to win and secure passage to next week’s ANZ Championship grand final against the Queensland Firebirds.

The final takes place in Brisbane on 21 June.
