The NSW Swifts have made it three wins from four games in the 2014 ANZ Championship with a 53-48 win over the Queensland Firebirds in round four in front of 3,598 supporters at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre on Sunday.

After getting away to an early lead, Swifts head coach Rob Wright was pleased his team was able to hold off the surges from the Firebirds.

“To get the two points is very important, especially at home,” Wright said.

“I think [it was] really set up in that first quarter, a fantastic quarter by us, and then pretty much just goal-for-goal really after that. Well done to the Firebirds, they really came back hard after that start.

“I think the most pleasing thing to come out of the game was when the heat came on and it was getting tough then we hung tough and I think, at times, that’s something we haven’t been as good at.”

Swifts Captain Kimberlee Green was named MVP after steering the Swifts front end and pulling in two intercepts along the way.
