Three NSWIS swimmers have booked their tickets to London after four days of competition at the 2012 Australian Swimming Championships, with a number of events still to come.

The championships were off to a flyer with David McKeon earning an Olympic spot on the opening night of competition. McKeon clocked 3:46.36 to win the men’s 400m freestyle and secure an Olympic nomination, before going on to finish third in the men’s 200m freestyle and book a place in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team.

McKeon’s selection on the opening night was complemented by fellow NSWIS athlete Daniel Tranter, who finished second in the men’s 400m individual medley in Olympic ‘A’ qualifying time to secure a London berth.

Daniel Arnamnart then made it an NSWIS trifecta by qualifying for London in the men’s 100m backstroke. Arnamnart finished second in the event but was good enough to finish in an Olympic ‘A’ qualifying time of 54.05.

The multi-class events also provided action in the opening days of the meet, with five NSWIS athletes winning medals.

The women’s 400m freestyle was a one-two NSWIS finish as Jacqui Freney took gold and Kara Leo secured silver; Tim Antalfy won gold in the men’s 50m butterfly; Prue Watt triumphed in the women’s 100m breaststroke and Matthew Levy swam to silver in the men’s 100m breastroke.

The action continues today with world champion James Magnussen lining up in the men’s 100m freestyle final alongside fellow NSWIS athletes Matthew Abood and Eamon Sullivan.
