Four NSWIS swimmers have kicked off their European season in style by notching medal winning performances at the 2013 French Open in Vichy.

James Magnussen warmed up for his world championship title defence with a resounding victory in the men’s 100m freestyle, clocking a time of 47.67 en route to gold. He was followed into second and third by fellow NSWIS athletes Daniel Tranter and Matthew Abood, respectively.

Magnussen added bronze in the men’s 50m freestyle to his medal swag, with Abood finishing sixth in the same event, while Tranter also picked up bronze after finishing third in the men’s 200m individual medley.

Fellow NSWIS athlete Jess Ashwood also won bronze at the event, taking to the medal dais in the women’s 800m freestyle before just missing out on the medals, finishing fourth, in the women’s 400m freestyle.
