NSWIS paddler Lachlan Tame claimed gold in the K1 200m at the Canoe Sprint Australia national championships yesterday.

Returning to the shorter distances he raced as he broke through, the Olympic Bronze medallist sprinted to victory against a strong field.

Tame said, “It doesn’t matter how long the races are, they all hurt. It’s nice not to have to hurt for as long, it’s good to be able to just crash and bash your way down the course.”

It was also good news for six NSWIS paddlers who have been named in the Australian squad for the upcoming World Cup and World Championships.

These include Murray Stewart, Riley Fitzsimmons and Jo Brigden-Jones – all already champions at the nationals in Penrith this week. They will be joined by World Championship debutants Simon McTavish and Robert McIntyre. Dylan Littlehales has also been selected for the Paracanoe World Championships.
