The Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) has announced the finalists for the prestigious 2016 Australian Paralympic Awards and a host of athletes from the NSWIS are in the running.

 

Seven awards will be presented at the Gala Ceremony in Sydney on Thursday, 8 December, including the highest accolade in Australian Paralympic sport – Paralympian of the Year.

 

The induction of new members into the Australian Paralympic Hall of Fame will also take place.

 

Heading up the list of nominations for NSWIS athletes are Paralympic 800m gold medallist James Turner, wheelchair rugby great Ryley Batt and swimstars Maddison Elliott, Ellie Cole and Tiffany Thomas Kane.

 

Elliott was the biggest winner at the recent NSWIS Awards, taking home three gongs including the Sydney City Toyota Female Athlete of the Year prize.

 

The highly competitive team of the year award was also dominated by NSWIS athletes with NSWIS athletes contributing to the nominations for the The Aussie Steelers wheelchair rugby team, the Australian Sailing team, the women’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay team and the women’s 4 x 400m wheelchair relay team.
