Eight NSWIS track & field athletes have been selected on the Australian Olympic Team following the conclusion of the 2016 Australian Athletics Championships.

The NSWIS contingent on the team is headlined by two time Olympian Dani Samuels, who will line up for her third consecutive appearance in the women’s discus when the Games take place in Rio.

Joining Samuels is fellow London Olympian Eloise Wellings, who added the 5000m to her schedule after previously being selected to compete in the women’s 10000m.

Six debutants were added alongside Wellings on the track, including Anneliese Rubie (400m), Ella Nelson (200m), Madeline Hills (3000m steeplechase), Michelle Jenneke (100m hurdles) and Josh Clarke (100m). Brandon Starc will join Samuels in the field after being selected in the men’s high jump.

Additional selections to the team will be made over the coming months, with the final contingent to be named by mid-July before the Games begin on 5 August.
