It’s with pleasure that the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) welcome Matt Shirvington and Amy Jones as members of the NSWIS Board.

Both incoming board members are former NSWIS athletes and bring a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the elite sporting landscape in Australia. Amy Jones is an Olympic medalist in water polo, winning bronze in Beijing, and has extensive experience in business, partnerships and the media. One of Australia’s most accomplished track athletes, Matt Shirvington currently works both in broadcast media and as a speed & agility coach.

The two new board members join Chairperson Gary Flowers, Deputy Chair Joseph Carozzi, Sarah Ryan OAM, Brad Lancken, Elizabeth Crouch, and Chris Fydler OAM.

Chairperson Gary Flowers is excited to have such an experienced board as NSWIS continues to build for Tokyo 2020.

“The eight-strong board bring a healthy mix of business acumen, sport governance and strategy, commercial expertise, and first-hand athlete perspectives.

“These characteristics combine to ensure NSWIS continues to successfully support Australian athletes to become world’s best”.

NSWIS would also like to acknowledge and thank both Alan Jones AO and Mark Bethwaite, who last year stepped down from their respective roles on the Board. Alan Jones has had a major impact on high performance sport over 21 years as Deputy Chair and has been a strong champion of the athletes, while playing a significant role in the ongoing relationship between NSWIS and the NSW Government.

Mark Bethwaite was on the Board for just under two years during which he provided crucial input, at an important time, into the governance and human resource management of NSWIS.
