Eleven NSWIS track & field athletes have been selected on the initial Australian athletics team for the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Kevin Moore leads the NSWIS selections on the team, competing in the men’s 400m and as part of the Australian men’s 4x400m relay team. James Kaan and Lachlan Renshaw will compete in the men’s 800m, James Nipperess will race the men’s 1500m, Ian Rayson lines up in the men’s 20km and sprinter Patrick Fakiye will take on the men’s 100m.

Anneleise Rubie, Sianne Toemoe and Bridey Delaney have been selected to compete in the women’s 100m, 800m and 1500m respectively, while Laura Cornford will don the green and gold in the women’s javelin. Nicole Fagan will take on the gruelling women’s 20km walk.

NSWIS athletes make up 37 per cent of the current athletics team, with more selections likely to be made ahead of the Games, taking place from August 11-23 2011.
