Skiers Anton Grimus (@antongrimus) and Scott Kneller (@scottkneller) were the only NSWIS athletes in action on day 13 of the Games, with both athletes turning in gutsy displays in the men’s ski cross.

Grimus and Kneller were unfortunately both eliminated during the round of 16 after successfully qualifying for the knockout stages, however neither skier went out without a fight.

Having to finish in the top two of the race to progress, Grimus was in fourth place and looking to make a bold move in the latter stages of his final run before coming unstuck, while Kneller did the same from third place in his heat, getting too much air off a jump before crashing out of contention.

Both athletes would have gained plenty out from their Sochi campaigns, Grimus on Olympic debut, and Kneller having come back from a horrific crash in December 2013 when he fractured a disc in spine at an event in Italy.

The ski cross action continues on day 14 of the Games, as the women’s event kicks off. NSWIS athletes Katya Crema (@KatyaCrema), Jenny Owens (@JennyOwensSki) andSami Kennedy-Sim (@samikennedysim) will fly the flag for Australia on the third last day of Olympic competition.

Joining the ski cross athletes in competition is NSWIS athlete Lavinia Chrystal(@LaviniaChrystal), who will take on the women’s slalom.
