Madison takes bronze at NYC Marathon, Evie wins Youth Sailor the Year and the women’s NSW Pride team in the hunt for a hockey finals berth.

 

Madison Finishes Third in NYC Marathon

From Staten Island to Manhattan in unseasonably warm weather, athletes turned out incredible performances at the 2022 New York City Marathon. On Sunday morning, 50,000 participants covered the historic course that runs through five boroughs, setting the stage for a great day of racing in the Big Apple.

Defending champion and NSWIS scholarship holder Madison de Rozario finished third (1:45.24) in the New York City marathon women’s wheelchair division while fellow NSWIS scholarships holder Christie Dawes finished sixth in the same event in a time of 1:51.40 and Eloise Wellings finished 18th in the women’s field in an impressive time of 2:34:50.

Evie Wins Youth Sailor Award

Congratulations to NSWIS scholarship holder Evie Saunders from the Manly Yacht Club who was named Youth Sailor of the Year at the 2022 Australian Sailing Awards on the weekend.

Held in person for the first time since 2019, the Australian Sailing Awards were a celebration of the sport and its community, with success celebrated from the grassroots level through to high performance on the international stage.

 

NSW Pride In Finals Hunt

The women’s NSW Pride, led by NSWIS scholarship holders, defensive midfielder Grace Young and Hockeyroos star Mariah Williams, swept aside the Tassie Tigers 5-0 in a slick all-around performance. The NSW Pride are sniffing finals as they host fellow title rivals the Canberra Chill in Parkes in the final regular season match on Saturday afternoon.

In the men’s match, NSW Pride earned the opening shot of the match through NSWIS scholarship holder Ehren Hazell but went down to the Tassie Tigers 1-2 who roared back into title contention with a clinical 2-1 defeat of the NSW Pride.

 

NSWIS Coaches At Strength and Conditioning Conference

Eight NSWIS coaches attended the Annual Applied Strength and Conditioning conference on the Gold Coast. Presentations centered around collaborating with technical coaches to create performance outcomes that are specific to the environment you are in.
