NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) winter athletes continue to dominate the podium during the northern hemisphere winter as summer sport athletes begin the new year in training camps.

 

Ben Wins Back-to-Back Gold

Three-time Paralympian and NSWIS scholarship holder Ben Tudhope has won back-to-back golds at the Pyhatunturi Para Snowboard Cross World Cups in Finland over the weekend.

“It’s great to start the year off in a really positive way and get the double win here in Finland,” Ben said.

 

Valentino a Crystal Globe Champion

NSWIS scholarship holder Valentino Guseli became Australia’s first-ever overall International Ski and Snowboard Federation Snowboard big air world cup winner at the final event of the season in the discipline in Kreischberg Austria.

Invaluable Experience for Stingers

The Tri Nations Test Match Series delivered a mixed bag of results for the Aussie Stingers as they hosted USA and Japan for a three test series in Perth.

“The results didn’t go our way but I think it has been a very good learning experience for our girls,” dual Olympian, NSWIS scholarship holder and Aussie Stingers Captain Zoe Arancini said.

Daisy Trains on the Airbag

NSWIS scholarship holder Daisy Thomas returns to the States for competition after participating in the Snow Australia Freeski Airbag Camp in Jindabyne .

“The best part of the camp was being back on the airbag with some consistency, and being able to see the progression in a short period of time,” 15-year-old Daisy said.

 

Coaches learn about Psychological Safety

NSWIS Gen 32 coaches Kate Jenner – hockey, Hally Chapman – rowing and James Greathead – triathlon were among 12 aspiring coaches who participated in the second learning lab of the Australian Institute of Sports’ (AIS) high performance coach development program.

“It was an invaluable experience for our apprentice coaches,” Alan McConnell NSWIS coach and AIS coach development lead said.
