It’s been an incredible week for NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) juniors, with emerging athletes in the sports of water polo, hockey and diving selected for international events as NSWIS announces a partnership with the State Sports High School Association.

Natalie Cracks Top 20

NSW scholarship holder Natalie Van Coevorden has pushed herself into the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) top 20 after an encouraging performance on the sixth stop in Hamilton, Bermuda.

Water Polo Women Shine

Congratulations NSWIS scholarship holders Zoe Arancini, Hayley Ballesty, Bronte Halligan, Sienna Hearn, Matilda Kearns, Genevieve Longman, Amy Ridge and Ruby Swadling, who were members of the Stingers team that finished in sixth place in a play off against Italy at the FINA World League Super Finals in Tenerife.

Congratulations also to up and coming NSWIS juniors including Samantha Henderson, Jasmine Higgs, Alexie Lambert and Olivia Mitchell who have been selected for the  Australian Junior Women’s squad for an upcoming tour of the United States.

Over the two week tour, the 16 strong squad will have an opportunity to train and play alongside some of the top college teams in the US system including Stanford and Berkeley, as well as the New Zealand national team.

Pride Through To Finals

Both NSW Pride men’s and women’s teams are through to the finals series in Bendigo on the 19th 20th November after the women’s team defeated the Canberra Chill 6-0 while the men’s team went down the Chill 0 – 3.

Congratulations to NSWIS scholarship holders Makayla Jones, Hannah Kable, Alana Kavanagh, Grace Young. Nathan Czinner, Miles Davis, Toby Mallon and Ryan Oschadleus, who have been selected for the Jillaroos and Burras squads named for the Oceania Junior World Qualifiers in Canberra from 8-11 December 2022.

Meanwhile NSWIS scholarship holders Nathan Czinner, Jake Lambeth and Toby Mallon were members of the Burras team that finished second at the 2022 Sultan of Johar Cup

Junior Divers Selected for Worlds

Congratulations NSWIS scholarship holders Lachlan Abbott, Sofia Knight and Ruby Drogemuller along with NSWIS coach Emma Lynch who have been selected for the Australian Team to compete at the FINA Junior World Championships to be held in Montreal, Canada from 27th November to 4th December 2022.

Foord Fires as Matildas Clean Sweep Sweden

Two goals to former NSWIS scholarship holder Caitlin Foord, as well as goals to Sam Kerr and Mary Fowler led to victory in front of 22,065 ecstatic fans in the Matildas biggest ever-win against a top 5 nation and their second ever over the Swedes.

High Performing Student Athletes on Pathway to Success

“This new partnership ensures our future Olympians have access to world class services in sport science, nutrition and strength and conditioning, so that they can perform at their best,” Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said.

“It will develop a stronger pathway for potential Olympic athletes and help NSWIS identify and unlock talent in our state’s sports high schools.”
