Sometimes that feeling like you could eat more after a meal, when you know you have had enough, can be because you have gone long periods over the day without a meal. For example, if you skip lunch you generally want to eat more at dinner, or when you skip breakfast you are likely to want to eat all afternoon.

The body is almost making up for lost time with what it hasn’t got, and is telling you to eat more to conserve some stores in case it goes that long again without any food. Eating similar sized portions at regular intervals throughout the day can have a big impact on controlling appetite.
