The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games are 483 days away, and while that may seem like a significant amount of time, for NSWIS winter sport athletes it will seem much closer with the 2016/2017 international season on their doorstep.

The qualification period of the 2018 Games commenced on July 1 this year, and athletes will have until January 21, 2018 to secure their quota place on the Australian team. To secure their place they will need to be ranked in the top 30 based on Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) points during the qualification period.

Among the NSWIS athletes focusing on securing their place are moguls competitors Matt Graham, Britt Cox, Brodie Summers and Nicole Parks, who are in the process of preparing for the upcoming winter season.

The quartet will primarily focus on the World Cup tour, which begins on December 10, 2016 at Ruka, Finland.

A highlight of the tour will be the fifth stop of the tour in Deer Valley, Utah, USA, where Graham will return to defend the title he won earlier this year.

Graham will be hoping that the upcoming season will be as successful as last where he secured three world cup podiums and finished the season ranked second in the world. Deer Valley has also been kind to Cox, who was third at the venue in 2012.

Of note, the upcoming season will see the world cup series hold an event in Bokwang, Korea, which will serve as the official Olympic test event for moguls and aerials.
