NSWIS skier Jenny Owens achieved her best result in two years by taking fifth place in the women’s ski cross at the 2011 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships in the USA.

Owens qualified for the quarter finals by finishing second in the elimination race, using the experience that has seen her compete at the two Winter Olympic Games as well as countless world cup appearances. After winning her quarter final Owens powered into the semi final, before an accident in the fast paced ski cross environment cost her a place in the medal race.

Owens’ determination in the ‘small’ final was rewarded by finishing first, and fifth overall.

Fellow NSWIS athletes and ski cross racers Katya Crema and Sami Kennedy finished 17th and 18th, respectively, while Scott Kneller finished 17th.

Meanwhile, NSWIS moguls athlete Britteny Cox has continued her outstanding improvement by finishing 12th in the women’s dual moguls.

Cox made the most of her second outing on the slopes after missing out on the individual moguls by one spot in 17th position, taking on third ranked Canadian Audrey Robichaud, who eventually finished fifth.

Cox is turning the moguls scene on its head with her rapid rise in the sport, dating back to her appearance at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. At only 16 years of age Cox is sure to be a standout achiever for Australia for years to come.

Nicole Parks finished 19th in the women’s dual moguls, an excellent achievement after a huge crash in the individual moguls, while in the men’s category Sam Hall finished 19th and David Graham finished 24th.
