NSWIS is celebrating its first World Champion of 2017 – with the seemingly unbeatable Britt Cox becoming Australia’s first ever Single Mogul Skiing World Champion in Sierra Nevada overnight.

Cox has been in the form of her life during the World Cup season, winning seven out of the 11 events she competed in and claiming the coveted Overall FIS Ladies Freestyle Skiing Crystal Globe.

She wore the favourite tag lightly however, producing yet another commanding performance to obliterate a strong field.

“All season this was the event in the back of my mind, this was the event that I really wanted to be successful at,” she said. “To be successful here and ski the way I did, I couldn’t be happier.”

Cox posted the highest scores in all three rounds, culminating in an exemplary 83.63 points in the final, comfortably defeating France’s Perrine Laffont who finished second with 82.51 and the reigning Olympic and World Champion Justine Dufour-Lapointe of Canada who was third with 80.74.

The NSWIS men couldn’t quite follow up Britt’s heroics, with Brodie Summers finishing in 11th, Matt Graham in 14th, and Rohan Chapman-Davies in 15th. In the women’s event two young NSWIS skiers were competing in their first World Championships – with Jakara Anthony coming in 12th and Madii Himsbury in 20th. Both behind the imperious, World Champion, Cox.
