NSWIS diver Melissa Wu has already put the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on her radar after finishing fifth in the 10m platform final.

Despite being only 24, Wu is the veteran on the Australian diving team, competing in her third Olympics.

She scored 368.30 points in the final to again fall just outside the medals. Wu finished fourth in London four years ago.

“I felt more consistent, a lot more in control tonight,” Wu told the AOC website.

“It was a really tough event. To even be up in the top five, I’m really happy with – especially with the pressure of the Olympic Games.”

Earlier in the day, Wu qualified fourth for the final.

NSWIS teammate Brittany O’Brien missed the final by juts six points.

The Sydney schoolgirl was ranked 15th after the semi-finals, with the top 12 making the cut for the medal round.

“I know I could have done more, two of my dives could have been a lot better but overall I am getting more consistent so I am happy,” O’Brien said.

“I am happy to have made it to the semi-finals and to have this experience and work on becoming more consistent.”

“I never really thought I would be able to do this, to be at the Olympic Games.”

“It has made me even more hungry for the future, I want to keep training hard and keep going and see where I can go.”
