The NSWIS has made a solid showing in the Australian team named to contest the IAAF World Junior Athletics Championships to be held in Barcelona from July 15-20.

Five NSWIS scholarship holders and 10 NSWIS Emerging Talent Squad athletes have been selected to represent Australia, making up 26% of the 57 strong team travelling to Barcelona.

NSWIS track scholarship holders Steve Solomon and Nicholas Hough have earned individual spots for the 400m and 110m hurdles respectively; which also means they have won places to compete in their respective 4x400m and 4x100m relay teams. Fellow NSWIS track scholarship holder Sarah Carli has earned the right to compete in the women’s 4x400m relay.

In the field, NSWIS scholarship holder Brandon Starc has been selected to compete in the high jump event and fellow NSWIS athlete Jake Stein will compete in the discus.

Along with these five NSWIS scholarship holders, another 10 NSWIS Emerging Talent Squad athletes have been named to travel to Barcelona to compete for Australia. Jenny Blundell (1500m), Michelle Jenneke (100m), Abbie Taddeo (400m hurdles), Jessie Michol (triple jump), Taylah Sengul (Discus), Ella Nelsonm (4x100m), Emily Coppins (4x400m) and Ben Jaworski (100m & 200m) should all be congratulated for their incredible efforts.
