Water Polo

In partnership with Water Polo Australia and Water Polo NSW, the NSWIS Water Polo program aims to elevate Australia’s position in the sport and develop future Australian Stingers.

WORLD’S BEST

The NSWIS Women’s Water Polo Program has a remarkable track record of producing national representatives in each Olympic cycle. The success began at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, where NSWIS athletes Simone Hankin, Yvette Higgins, Bronwyn Mayer, Debbie Watson, Liz Weekes, and Taryn Woods played pivotal roles in leading the Australian team to a sensational gold medal victory. The program continued its success with a bronze medal performance at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Most recently there were eight NSWIS water polo athletes in a squad of 13 Aussie Stingers that finished fifth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and sixth at the 2022 FINA World Championships. The same squad went on to win the gold medal at the World League Intercontinental in 2022 and finished fourth at the 2023 World Championships.

Former NSWIS Head Coach, and Olympic bronze medallist, Rebecca Rippon became the National Women’s Head Coach in 2024.
