The Australian Canoe Slalom Team kicked off their international season at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup 1 in Tacen, Slovenia over the weekend with Olympic champion Jessica Fox setting the tone for the team.

The New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holder returned in style, taking home her first World Cup medal of the season. Returning nine months post-surgery, Fox’s silver medal-winning performance proved to be extra impressive being only 0.13 seconds away from the top of the podium.

“This is probably the first time a silver medal has felt like a gold medal to me. Just getting to the start line today was the biggest challenge. It’s just wonderful to be back racing and to start this way,” Fox said.

With World Cup 1 being the first hit-out on international rapids for the team, their attention now shifts to World Cup 2 in Prague, Czechia from 5-7 June, where Olympic gold medalist Noemie Fox will take to the start line.

The Australian Canoe Slalom team will continue to build towards the 2026 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, taking place at the LA 2028 Olympic Games venue in Oklahoma City, USA in seven weeks time.
