Elation. Nerves. Heartbreak. Joy. Jessica Fox has ridden the full gamut of emotions in winning bronze in the Kayak K1 final.

In a drama-packed end to her Rio campaign, the NSWIS paddler would find herself in first, second and finally third as other results came in and the wrath of officials was applied to her run.

With just four paddlers remaining, Fox jumped to the top of the leaderboard with a final run time of 1:00:49.

It moved her past eventual silver medallist Luuka Jones from New Zealand, who had notched a time of 101.82.

Then, drama would unfold.

Fox was awarded a two second penalty as officials adjudged her to have hit Gate 22 with her underarm.

With the penalty, Fox dropped to second and faced a nervous wait to remain in the medals.

The top two would be trumped by Fox’s European Olympic training partner Maialen Chourraut of Spain who won the gold with a slick 98.65 seconds.

The bronze medal adds to the silver Fox won four years ago in London.
